At a computer trade fair, Bill Gates had
compared the computer industry to the auto industry and made the following statement: "If General Motors had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars today that can travel 1,000 miles on one gallon of gas."

In response, General Motors released a press statement that read: "If General Motors had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following features today:

1. Your car would crash twice a day for no apparent reason.

2. Every time the lines on the road are redrawn, you would have to buy a new car.

3. Occasionally a car would just stall on the highway for no apparent reason and you would just accept it, restart it and keep driving.

4. When performing certain maneuvers, such as a left turn, the car would simply stall and refuse to restart. You would then have to reinstall the engine.

5. You can only sit alone in the car unless you buy "Car95" or "CarNT". But then you would have to pay for each seat individually.

6. Macintosh would make cars that run on solar energy, run reliably, are five times as fast and twice as easy to drive, but only travel on 5% of all roads.

7. The oil control light, temperature and battery warning lights would be replaced by a "General Car Fault" warning light.

8. New seats would require everyone to have the same buttock size.

9. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before it triggers.

10. Occasionally the car would lock you out for no apparent reason. You can only unlock it again with a trick: you would have to pull the door handle, turn the key and grab the radio antenna with one hand at the same time.

11. General Motors would force you to buy a deluxe map set from Rand-McNally (now a GM subsidiary) with every car, even if you don't need or want this set of maps. If you ignore this option, the car would immediately slow down by 50% (or worse). In addition, GM would become a target of judicial investigations.

12. Whenever a new car was manufactured by GM, all drivers would have to learn how to drive a car again because none of the control levers would work the same as in the old cars.

13. You would have to press the "START" button to turn off the engine.
